Merlins Rook - Phase I Build

Merlins Rook Server (merlins_rook)Merlins Rook - Phase I

True multi-processing and true multi-tasking can only come from multiple processors. This means the system MUST have multiple CPUs. For centralized file services, a very large hard drive speaks for itself. I had been splitting the system and data tasks between disks on my workstations. The same would be so for the server. But what it unwritten is the memory needed. I figure 512 Megabytes would be good for starters.

Lets Look at the System Must Do:
  • Indentify users logging in. - multiuser
  • Serve files to multiple users - multiple processes
  • Serve applications to multiple users - multiple tasking
  • Large Centralized File Storage - large disk

    In Summary:
  • multiuser - they want everything, but can they have it?
  • multiple processes - lots of memory and processors
  • multiple tasking - multi-processors
  • a big system drive and an even bigger data drive.
  • BE WITH IN BUDGET! The Wife, aka The Boss, was watching.

Phase I is considered the system as it was from 01 March 2001 to 30 November 2002. Phase II is the upgrade that was completed on 01 December 2002. Primary upgrades were installation of more memory, a much larger hard drive for data, and the move to an actual server case.
