Archers Hall

Archers Hall - opened for servicing

Arhcers_Hall(ME) is classified as a personal computer. Knights Hall is now my daughter's computer. Archers was built around the fall of 1998. Originally designed as a graphics workstation, Archers sported a SIS530 type mainboard, 64MB of SDRAM (which was more than most stores were selling at that time), and 4 MByte AGP onboard graphics. Archers_Hall also has the dubious distinction of being one of the first network clients to Short_Rook. It also has the fewest upgrades (2).

Early Home Network Days - The Second Client

Around June of 1999, Archers was configured as second client computer to my first server, Short_Rook. Jestors_Hall still had the distinction of being the tear-down, but I wanted a second client to be a testbed before adding anything to the primary workstation, Centre_Keep. By then, my Centre_Keep had become the long distance communication workstation in the house, catching emails from both my family and my wife's family. Like many Filipinas, my wife comes from a large family with many relatives, with whom she stays in contact with, who are living around the world. So instead of taking down the primary workstation, Archers_Hall and Jestors_Hall were the two client computers. Centre_Keep did join the network. However, most network features were added after being tested on Jestor and Archer.

In October of 1999, Archers_Hall under went another upgrade and had its Pentium class board removed and and a Tyan Trinity 100 was installed. Archers_Hall's internal components were aligned to match Knights_Hall. The system looks very different on the outside, but on the inside, their capabilities are identical.

Sometime in early 2001, Archers_Hall was moved from the basement to my daughter's room was it is today.

Until January of 2002, the problem with Stin_Net at the time, was that Archers_Hall, like Knights_Hall was not networked. What it more, this system does not even carry a modem. A network card was present for laptop servicing, and of course, prior network participations. But other then this connection, Archers_Hall was now a standalone computer. On January of 2002, a wireless network card was installed in Archers_Hall, adding Archers_Hall to the network. Early February, ALL of the HALL computers were reconfigured to be clients to the server. Archers_Hall, finally rejoined a server network it had help start.

Sadly, Archers_Hall has a small mid-tower case and everything is practically shoehorned into the case. Because of this growth limitation, Archers_Hall will not be seeing another upgrade. A Pentium-III class computer is now being built to take the place of Archers_Hall, upon which, Archers_Hall will be decommissioned and sold off.
