Vladimire
Born March 15, 2002 as possibly the second or third kitten, he started out as a
beacon of white amongst the black and grey. His sapphire blue eyes are also the light of
Mom's eye and he knows it.
Although Vladimire gets along with everyone and is a very friendly cat, Vladimire is
Annette's kitty, hands down. Although my wife tends to subdue her emotions, Vladimire is her
"other bunso" [tagalog="the youngest child], and she slips often. Here is one episode.
After Annette had surgery, my mom was visiting to help. Annette had recently purchase a
new bunk bed and Grandma was looking at it.
While in the boys' room, Grandma asked "So do BOTH your boys sleep in the
bunk bed?"
To which my proud wife answered "Oh, yes, Darwin sleeps on the bottom and
Vladimire sleeps on top."
Shocked and perplex, Grandma asks "Vladimire!? So where does Casey sleep?"
"Oh, he sleeps with me".
"Doesn't the cat have a corner he can sleep?" asks an even more perplexed Grandma.
"No. He either sleeps up here with Vedra or he sleeps with me."
Unless Vedra is out playing, he tends to stick within calling distance of Annette and
is even tolerant of Casey, our actual youngest child, poking and prodding him. Actually,
Vlad is the closet thing Casey has to a dog and they are usually not far apart either. I
guess from Vladimire's thinking, where Casey goes, Mom is not far away.
Although Vlad will sometimes share my bed with Tasha and Vedra, I generally do not
let him in the computer room. He likes to crawl up on the shelves and has pulled too many
cables in the past, both 120V power and data. If he is resting in a chair, that is OK.
But as soon as he gets up and starts looking around, that is when I have Mom call him.
We have not had Vladimire fixed, yet. Not because "kitty litters are someone else's
problem", but because the wife and I have thought about fathering kittens from him.
