Ulysess Litter - May 10, 2001
We had a few major learning curves with this group. First, although Sassy is an experienced mom, she will pass that
knowledge directly to her own kittens. However, this litter is Tasha's responsibilty to teach as will be Todi and her future
litter. Secondly, two kittens are easy to track, five are a handful. If someone gets it trouble, you have to scold the kitten by
name. Otherwise, they scatter. An very young inexperienced mom is no help in teaching kittens. As mom does most of the
teaching, practice makes purrfect and experienced does count. As a results, it about nine weeks to train this litter to be
100% tained.housebroken. Housebreaking was made easier by naming them and as our tracking was poor, we had taken
to "marking" the kitties with a non-toxic marker, so we could identify them. (Another chuckle at the vet's office).
As we did not name the kittens until after they had left the den, there is not in any known order to the list.
- Ulysses - Obviously the "lead kitten". He is a seal-point siamese/himalayan. He seems
to be the one who likes mischief...and of course, the others will follow. Yes, he is named after
Ulysses S. Grant.
- Ursa - As in Ursa Major, as she loves to get into major trouble around the house.
Also a seal-point siamese/himalayan. The next biggest in the bunch, possibly number two. While
she is friendly, if Ulysses is getting into trouble, she is probably just around the corner.
When caught, then she hides.
- Unco - Slightly smaller/lighter male, possibly number 3, he is a bit more shy.
However, he seems to be more cooperative and smarter....he was the first to become housebroken
well ahead of the other kittens. He is a seal-point siamese/himalayan. Uncle was too plain so
we mispelled his name to Unco.
- Ubas - Brownish/Dark grey w/white forepaws. The brownish grey gave her a "purple"
look, hence the Tagalog word "Ubas", meaning "grape". This kitty is a bit shy but very friendly.
I did get a chance to speak to her new owner and he states that she has since, turned black
like her mom, Tasha.
- Unzen - She was a seal-point siamese/himalayan. Unfortuantely,
she died almost three weeks after birth.
For best housebreaking results, name your kittens immediately!
